Classic Sri Lanka (12 Day Tour)

Day 1 : Airport-Negombo.

Arrive at the airport in Sri Lanka and transfer to the Beach Hotel in Negombo (15 minutes from the airport). Visit a fishing village or spend some time at the beach. Overnight stay in Negombo.

Day 2 : Negombo-Sigiriya.

After breakfast travel to Sigiriya visiting Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage on the way. This institution has been looking after orphaned or injured elephants for many years. You will see elephants bathing in the river. Then drive to Dabulla Golden Rock Cave Temple which dates back to the 1st century BC. The caves include 157 Buddha statues and fascinating ceiling paintings depicting life and times of Buddha. Overnight stay in Sigiriya.

Day 3 : Sigiriya.

After breakfast drive to Sigiriya Lion Rock which was built by King Kashapa in the 5th century. These ruins are from a complex of buildings including the Royal Palace and a fortified town. You can see the famous and attractive fresco paintings. Elephant riding is available in the afternoon. Overnight stay in Sigiriya.

Day 4 : Sigiriya-Kandy.

After breakfast drive to Kandy via Matale visiting the Hindu temple and the Aluwiharaya Temple. This is the historic location where the Pali Canon was first written down completely in text on Ola (palm) leaves. Aluwiharaya has numerous monastery caves, some of which exhibit fine frescoes. Overnight stay in Kandy.

Day 5 : Kandy.

After breakfast explore Kandy city which has been a centre of the Buddhist faith for a long time. Visit the stunning 17th-century Temple of the Tooth. Also visit the popular Peradeniya Botanical Garden where there are more than 4,000 species of exotic and indigenous plants used for medicinal and decorative purposes. In the evening see a cultural dance show. Overnight stay in Kandy.

Day 6 : Kandy-Nuwara Eliya-Ella.

After breakfast travel to the Hill Country in the heart of Sri Lanka where the finest tea is grown. Stop at Rush Waterfall. See the tea plantations and visit an historic tea factory. Many of the buildings are all are in the Colonial British style. Ayurveda massages are available. Overnight stay in Ella.

Day 7 : Ella-Tissamaharama.

After breakfast drive to Tissamaharama and visit the waterfall coming through green hills. Then see the Buduruwagala (stone images of the Buddha) which is one of the most remarkable spiritual sites located within a rocky clearing of the dry zone forest which is inhabited by colorful birds and butterflies. In the afternoon we take a wild safari trip in Yala National Park which is the most popular wildlife park in Sri Lanka where you can see most of the animals found in this country. Overnight stay in Tissamaharama.

Day 8 : Tissamaharama- Mirissa.

After breakfast proceed to Mirissa. The afternoon can be spent on the breathtaking sandy beach. Overnight stay in Mirissa.

Day 9 : Mirissa.

In the morning go whale watching. Then back to the hotel where you can relax, enjoy the sun and lie down on the soft white beach. Overnight stay in Mirissa.

Day 10 : Mirissa- Galle.

After breakfast travel to Galle and on the way visit the Weligama stick fishing attraction and the Dondra lighthouse. In the afternoon visit the Galle Fort which is a well preserved fortified city built originally by the Dutch. Overnight stay in Galle.

Day 11 : Galle-Colombo.

After breakfast drive to Colombo and on the way visit the turtle hatchery and Mithiygoda moon stone mine. Afternoon city tour of Colombo. Overnight stay in Colombo.

Day 12 : Colombo-Airport.

Drive to airport to meet your flight.
